  • Is blurry vision with hard/RGP contact lenses normal when you first get them?

    Question:

Is it normal to see blurry with hard/RGP contact lenses when you first get them? I’ve had them for five days and I got used to the contact in two to three days, but my vision is still blurry. Is this normal?

    Answer:

No. If RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) contact lenses have a good fit and the correct prescription, the vision should be as clear as the visual system allows. Usually before the RGP lenses are ordered, your eye doctor can show you what the vision should be with RGP over refraction. In other words, wearing a set of trial RGP lenses without the correct prescription and then placing the correct prescription into the phoropter (the instrument used during an exam to find the correct prescription).
