Could my floaters be caused by the macular degeneration?

Question:
I have macular degeneration and have just experienced an onset of floaters that never go away. Could my floaters be caused by the macular degeneration?
Answer:
It is unlikely that the floaters are related to macular degeneration unless you have had active bleeding in the retina and some of the blood "broke through" into the vitreous (or central) cavity of the eye. I would encourage you to be evaluated by your ophthalmologist to try to identify the cause of the new onset of floaters.
