  • How long does it take to recover full vision after cataract surgery?

    Question:

My father who is 80 years old underwent cataract surgery. The IOL used was multifocal. It’s almost one and a half months since the operation and he still says the vision is not clear and there is a thin smoke layer. The doctor had said that since the cataract was harder the operation was fine but there was a swelling and once that is reduced you will get better vision. Is it the right analysis and how long does it take to recover full vision?

    Answer:

Without examining your dad, I cannot say for certain if this is the correct analysis. However, it is certainly possible that there is persisting swelling, and that this is affecting your father's vision. I do know that in most cases, if the swelling is going to resolve, it will do so within a few months of surgery.
