Vision Loss from Optic Nerve Blood Flow Problem
MAR 06, 2013
My son has developed blindness in one eye and decreased sight in the other. This was caused by fistulas in his brain that caused decreased blood flow to his eyes and damaged his optic nerve. Can any procedures help restore his sight?
This is a difficult question to answer as each person's medical history and examination will help determine if there is a specific treatment for your son. I can give you some general information regarding the optic nerve. The optic nerve is very sensitive to lack of blood flow. Any compromise to blood flow can result in permanent damage to the nerve. You should have your son evaluated by a neuro-ophthalmologist (an ophthalmologist that specializes in problems with the optic nerve and brain).
