  • What’s causing eyelid swelling after my sinus infection?

    Question:

I had a sinus infection diagnosed. What could be causing painful swelling of the left eyelid, the area between the lid and brow, as well as underneath the eye?

    Answer:

The orbit (the cavity the holds the eye) is surrounded by the sinuses. If these sinuses are infected, the eyelids can swell as a result of poor sinus drainage and accompanying inflammation. The swelling around your eye should reduce as the inflammation and infection improves.
