  • What to Do for Child Sleeping with Eyes Open?

    Question:

An 8-year-old girl sleeps with her eyes open. What precautions should be taken and how unusual is this?

    Answer:

Precautions are not necessary, but an eye exam is required to make sure the eyes are sufficiently moist so that the cornea is not being damaged. In most cases there is no problem. In some rooms humidification or even application of eye ointments and drops may be necessary to prevent corneal damage.
