  • Why does my astigmatism correction not appear in my contact prescription?

    Question:
My glasses prescription shows a value of -0.5 for the cylinder, but the contacts value is 0.0 for the same eye. Why is that?

    Answer:
Generally, if the cylinder (a measure of astigmatism correction in the eye) value is -0.5 or less, the contact lens will only carry the basic power (sphere correction). Adding a cylinder this small to your contact lens would amount to an indetectable improvement in clarity, but the lenses would cost more to you.
