• Why does my right eye open when I shoot my gun?

    Question:

I am in a police academy and others have commented that when I shoot my gun my left (dominant) eye should be open but my right eye should stay closed. But sometimes my right eye opens, and I don’t realize it. Can you explain why this may be happening?

    Answer:

Most shoot with both eyes open. One usually closes an eye if that eye is co-dominant or is really their dominant eye.
