Charles D. Kelman, MD, introduced phacoemulsification for cataract surgery 50 years ago. At AAO 2017, two of Dr. Kelman’s colleagues — Jack Dodick, MD, and Norman Medow, MD — spoke of the challenges that innovators face. And at a skills transfer lab at the annual meeting, attendees honed their phaco skills.
