Virtual exams with New Nursing Home Patients
Question: Our physician has been asked to see a new patient who resides in a nursing home. However, the exam will be virtual. How should we submit?
Answer: During the period of the public health emergency, CMS has waived the requirement that virtual exams with nursing home patients were only allowed for established patients. As this exam would’ve taken place in the nursing facility, bill the appropriate initial nursing facility care E/M code 99304-99306 with modifier -95. Use the correct place of service for type of facility.
