  • Billing Self-Pay Instead of Insurance

Question: If patients choose to pay out-of-pocket for their exams rather than bill their insurance, do we have to limit what we charge them?

Answer: The patient can choose to self-pay rather than use their insurance with documentation that neither the patient nor the office will submit a claim. List the full fee and then show the reduction (if you choose to offer a reduction) if they pay at the time of service. Most practices have one self-pay rate for all patients.
