  • Medicare is Delayed in Updating ICD-10 Codes for NCDs


    The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is still updating its National Coverage Determination policies to include the new ICD-10 codes that took effect Oct. 1, 2016. You should see these updates during the January and April 2017 quarterly updates. However, most Medicare Administrative Contractors have already updated their Local Coverage Determination policies and are processing claims correctly with the new ICD-10 codes.

    What this means for denials

    • If you experience a denial, review the reason codes to determine if based on an NCD or contact your MAC for further guidance.
