  • Nasolacrimal Stent Removal

A pediatric ophthalmologist in another state placed bilateral nasolacrimal stents under anesthesia for a child who subsequently moved to my state. I saw the child and removed the stents in the office. How should I code for the stent removal?

Answer: There is not a separate CPT code for the stent removal. Use the appropriate level of E/M or eye visit code.
Additional coding competency resources can be found in Fundamentals of Ophthalmic Coding.
