Payer Bundling Gonioscopy
Question: We have a payer who states a gonioscopy is incidental to an extended ophthalmoscopy. I don’t see a Correct Coding Initiative edit. Has something changed?
Answer: It may be due to the language included in the CPT code 92020 Gonioscopy, which reads "separate procedure." While Medicare will pay both procedures, some commercial payers interpret that to mean no other services can be paid the same day.
