  • Placing KeraNatural Rings

What is advised for coding when placing the KeraNatural rings and arcs for keratoconus?

Answer: The Academy’s Health Policy Committee shares:

Tissue rings or segments for keratoconus should be billable with 65785, Implantation of intrastromal corneal ring segments. The physician's work (creating femto channels, insert ring) and post-op regimen is the same. The only thing that differs is the implanted material.

The tissue will not be paid for on pass-through as this is not a corneal transplant. There is money built in to pay for the device when done in the office where the site of service differential is higher.
