• Along with eye drops, will sunlight help pink eye?

    Question:
Along with prescribed eye drops, will extended time in direct sunlight help pink eye?

    Answer:
The term “pink eye” usually refers to an eye infection caused by a virus or bacteria, though sometimes it can have other causes, such as allergies. Regardless of the cause, there is no evidence that direct exposure to sunlight will help pink eye, and too much sun can be bad for your eyes,  just like your skin.

In addition to your prescription eye drops for pink eye, we recommend washing your hands often and using cool compresses (a clean, cold damp washcloth laid over your closed eyes) as needed for comfort. If your symptoms don’t improve then you should let your eye care provider know.
