Am I a good candidate for cataract surgery with granulomatosis?
SEP 13, 2018
Question:
I am in remission from an autoimmune disease called granulomatosis with polyangiitis (causes inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidneys and other organs). I had a kidney transplant and had a heart valve replacement with a pacemaker. I recently found that I have cataracts forming in both eyes from prednisone (steroid) use. Will I be considered for surgery?
Answer:
You are absolutely a good candidate for cataract surgery and this type of cataract is often easier to remove. Your disease should not make the surgery any more difficult.
