Can I wear a contact lens in one eye after surgery on the other eye?

Question:
I’m having cataract surgery on my right eye. Can I still wear a contact lens in left eye?
Answer:
Yes, you may wear a contact lens on the non-operated eye after cataract surgery, but I advise you to speak with your ophthalmologist about your intention prior to the surgery. He or she might have some concern about proper handling of your contact lens and any risk of infection from your hands to your newly operated eye. Some people wear a contact lens in the operated eye after it has healed if they require additional focusing.
