Can Prolensa drops help a macular hole?
JAN 11, 2016
Question:
I have been told that there is a 10 percent chance that using Prolensa drops in the affected eye for 30 days would cure a macular hole (a small break in the back part of your eye responsible for detailed central vision). Is this true?
Answer:
Prolensa is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drop. To my knowledge, there is no evidence that this medication can cure a macular hole. It is possible that your physician was referring to another condition affecting the central retina, which is macular edema. Macular edema is swelling and there is some evidence that Prolensa may have benefit for macular edema.
