What is the potential of scarring after cataract surgery?
MAR 10, 2014
Question:
I have a history of abdominal adhesions due to surgeries. I am considering cataract removal along with LRI for astigmatism. Because my body creates scar tissue so easily, I am concerned about developing scarring in the eye, particularly from LRI. Is eye tissue susceptible to scarring?
Answer:
Not a concern. Adhesions from abdominal surgeries as well as keloid formation in the skin have absolutely no correlation to your eye surgery. The cornea itself (where the incisions are made) is fairly avascular, lessening the issue of scarring.
