What is this fluid-filled growth on my eye?
OCT 19, 2015
Question:
I have noticed what appears to be a small growth at the medial canthus (corner) of left eye. It appears to be fluid filled, is not painful, and does not interfere with vision. I am a 60-year-old diabetic, with no retinopathy. What might this be?
Answer:
It is hard to say without an exam so please see an eye doctor nearby to be sure, as this can be any number of conditions. If it is fluid-filled then it is most likely not serious. A hydrocystoma is a common eyelid lesion that can be left untreated since it is usually harmless. If it is symptomatic, removal can be used to confirm a diagnosis. An eye doctor can tell whether this needs to be removed and examined.
