Why did they put yellow dye in my daughter’s eye?
APR 20, 2016
Question:
My daughter went to the college infirmary to see if she had pink eye. They dyed her eye yellow to look in it. Is this a common practice? Her eye is now irritated from the yellow stuff they put in it.
Answer:
Yellow or fluorescein dye is used to test for a scratch on the cornea (the front clear window of the eye). Many times the applicator may touch the eye or the drop itself may be irritating for a short time. It should clear up rapidly.
