  • Introduction

At the heart of the Minority Ophthalmology Mentoring program is a dynamic team of ophthalmologist mentors dedicated to supporting students on their paths to becoming competitive ophthalmology residency applicants. This is a multi-year relationship that requires time and attention meant to provide support through medical school to residency (and maybe beyond). These videos provide mentees with key elements of a successful relationship. They include:

    • Meetings: In this video, Dr. Kelly discusses why and how to make meetings a priority in mentor-mentee relationships.
    • Communications Strategy: In this video, Dr. Kelly discusses how to establish a communication strategy in a mentor-mentee relationship.
    • Creating Goals: In this video, Dr. Kelly discusses how to create goals and establish accountability in a mentor-mentee relationship.
    • Confidentiality: In this video, Dr. Kelly discusses why maintaining confidentiality is key to successful mentor-mentee relationships.
    • Professional Networks: In this video, Dr. Kelly discusses how mentors and mentees can co-create professional networks.
