  • Documentation Rules for Physicians and Non-Physician Practitioners

Question:  I’ve read that an ophthalmologist does not have to redocument information in the chart note, but does that also apply to our physician assistant (PA)?

Answer: Yes. The 2020 final rule included nonphysician practitioners (NPPs), such as PAs and nurse practitioners (NPs) in the updated policy. It allows physicians and NPPs to review documentation and verify with signature and date, rather than redocumenting notes.
