Different professional guidelines for myopia stress the importance of screening children at various age intervals for various signs of disease, but there are many gaps among current recommendations. Dr. Megan Collins addresses the unmet needs in myopia care in this third presentation at the AAO 2023 "Understanding Myopia: Global Prevalence, Mechanism, Treatment, and Prevention in 2023" symposium. Dr. Collins focuses on the public health benefits of providing comprehensive school-based vision care to children, particularly the value in expanding care to encompass middle and high school students rather than just younger children, in order to better identify emerging eye issues in those individuals.
