Intrascleral Fixation of In-the-Bag Subluxated IOLs: Pearls and Pitfalls

    AAO 2023 Video Program
    Cataract/Anterior Segment, IOLs and Implantation

As the incidence of late posterior chamber lens subluxation rises, there is an increasing need to secure these intraocular lenses (IOLs) with a reliable technique. Intrascleral fixation of an in-the-bag IOL first described by Assia et al in 2020, represents such an option. However, this technique has many nuances that are critical for successful and optimal bag repositioning. In this video, we review the basic technique of using the 6-0 polypropylene flanged technique and also highlight some of the key pearls and pitfalls, knowledge of which can improve intraoperative efficiency and prevent postoperative complications.

This video was noted as being one of the Best of AAO 2023.
