Top 5 Pearls for Pseudophakic Dysphotopsia

    Cataract Spotlight/AAO 2023
Cataract/Anterior Segment, Complications, IOLs and Implantation

In this presentation, Dr. Samuel Masket explains pseudophakic dysphotopsia and shares 5 pearls for managing the visual phenomena:

    • Know the different types of dysphotopsia (diffractive optic, positive, negative).
    • Know how to exchange single-piece intraocular lenses (IOLs) and be aware of varying haptic designs.
    • Positive dysphotopsia is induced by square-edge IOL design and high index of refraction; it is IOL-design specific.
    • Negative dysphotopsia is induced by any IOL type or design; it is related to IOL position in the eye.
    • Listen to and work with the dysphotopic patient.
