Superior Orbital Fissure
The superior orbital fissure separates the greater and lesser wings of the sphenoid bone and transmits cranial nerves (CNs) III, IV, and VI; the first (ophthalmic) division of CN V; and sympathetic nerve fibers. Most of the venous drainage from the orbit passes through this fissure via the superior ophthalmic vein to the cavernous sinus (Fig 1-4; see also Fig 1-1).
