Dr. Ehud Assia demonstrates the APX (Assia Pupil Expander, APX Ophthalmology Ltd., Haifa, Israel), a new device for pupil dilation. Similar in appearance to blunt scissors with a spring, pupil expansion is achieved by inserting two devices through 19-gauge (1.1 mm) side-port incisions opposite to each other. Specially designated forceps are used to maneuver the device. No intraocular manipulations are required for insertion, positioning or removal of the APX.
