  • Can cataracts cause headaches?

    Question:

    Can cataracts cause headaches?

    Answer:

It is unlikely for cataracts to cause headaches. However, if there is a change in the refraction (glasses power) due to the cataracts, that can cause discomfort and/or headaches. Also, loss of vision from cataracts can sometimes be partially compensated for by squinting the eyes which can give a feeling of strain or discomfort. Others will unconsciously use the brow to raise the eyelid to allow more light in and this can cause strain which may be perceived as headache.
