If my IOL is scratched, should I have it replaced?
NOV 05, 2018
Question:
My intraocular lens (or IOL, the artificial lens that replaces the eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery) was scratched during insertion and needs to be replaced. Is it common to just leave a scratched lens in?
Answer:
If the defect does not affect vision, I would not touch it. If it is causing visual issues, then, by all means have it replaced. This is usually an uneventful procedure.
