Optometric Surgery Legislation Thwarted in Alaska
A bill that would have authorized optometrists to perform surgery with lasers, scalpels, needles and other surgical modalities in Alaska has been defeated for the 2015 legislative session. If it had passed, this scope-of-practice legislation would have been a major setback for patient surgical safety in Alaska.
