In this interview from AAO 2017, Dr. Bita Esmaeli describes the newest therapies for treating orbital lymphoma. The latest technique involves using an ultra-low-dose radiation therapy: A total of 4 Gy to the orbit delivered in 2 consecutive days in equal fractions. All patients who have received this therapy demonstrate some response, and an impressive 60% show a complete response. In her experience, Dr. Esmaeli finds that ultra-low-dose radiation is most suitable for treating mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) and follicular lymphomas. Due to promising findings from her retrospective study, Dr. Esmaeli is currently investigating the efficacy of ultra-low-dose orbital radiation as a definitive therapy for indolent B-cell lymphoma a prospective clinical trial (NCT02494700).
