    Epinucleus Removal with Phaco Probe

    1-Minute Video

    Cataract/Anterior Segment

In this 1-Minute Video, Dr. Vipul Arora demonstrates how to remove the epinucleus using a phacoemulsification probe. Avoid directing the phaco probe downward toward the posterior capsule as it will lead to posterior capsular rupture. Using the probe, keep a firm grip on the sheet. Since the posterior capsule does not have another protective layer, make sure not to aspirate the sheet with phaco power. Finally, remember to push lightly on the foot petal and never press it to the phaco 3 position. Use the same settings you would use in phaco-chop but with ultrasonic energy. This method can save time in irrigation and aspiration, and help mitigate complications.
