Lens-Capsular Bag Complex Fixation Technique

In this 1-Minute Video, Dr. Steven Safran uses a Malyugin-modified Cionni capsular tension ring (CTR) to fixate the lens-capsular bag complex prior to cerclage. After phacoemulsification, he passes the Gore-Tex suture through the CTR and injects it into the eye. He makes a scleral groove posterior to the limbus behind the iris and creates a sclerotomy. He retrieves the sutures through the sclerotomy and ties them in a loose knot to secure the capsular bag. Finally, the cerclage can be performed without risking capsular bag dislocation.
