In this clinical video, Dr. Sergio Canabrava performs his 4-flanged technique with horizontal axis fixation of an Akreos IOL. This video demonstrates Dr. Canabrava’s continued work on this method—his first video demonstrated the 4-flanged technique with a nonfoldable IOL, based on Dr. Enrique Malbran's and Dr. Shin Yamane's work. A second video showed the technique with foldable IOL and an IOL punch.

In this video, Dr. Canabrava tests the method with a 3-piece Sensar IOL, a Tecnis single-piece IOL and an Akreos IOL. His tests suggest the best results were obtained when the technique was applied on the horizontal axis with the Akreos IOL. Further studies are needed to fully confirm its long-term safety profile.

Relevant Financial Disclosures: Dr. Sergio Canabrava has a patent pending on the foldable IOL created for the 4-flanged technique.
