    Capsulorrhexis Expansion Using "L" Flaps

    Cataract/Anterior Segment

In this video, Dr. Ashish Sapkal shows a simple way to expand a smaller-sized capsulorrhexis using a cystotome needle. The idea is to obtain an L-shaped flap using a capsulorrhexis forceps instead of a microscissors, which would leave a sharp, acute-angled cut to the rhexis margin. The L flap is safer to grasp and prevents accidental extension of the rhexis when the surgeon tries to expand the cut to fashion a small flap. This method is useful for enlarging the smaller rhexis after implanting the IOL.
