    Phaco Masters: Kimiya Shimizu

Dr. Kimiya Shimizu is responsible for many innovations. In the early 1980s he was one of the first to operate on cataract patients using only topical anesthesia. He also performed a circular capsulhorexis, clear corneal incisions, and sutureless closure in Japan years before these techniques became popular in the Western world. He was the first to design a pre-loaded injector, championed the pseudophakic option of monovision, and developed the toric lens in the early 1990s. In this video he performs a toric IOL implantation, which accounts for about 10% of all his operations.
