This prospective, cross-sectional study evaluated the relationship between the parameters of standard automated perimetry (SAP) and OCT in 423 patients comprising four diagnostic groups: normal, ocular hypertensive, glaucoma suspect and glaucomatous. The study’s authors found that, in general, the greater the visual field damage, the stronger the correlations, with mild to moderate correlations found in the glaucoma and glaucoma suspect groups and mild correlations in the normal and ocular hypertensive groups.

The authors note that only glaucoma patients with elevated IOP were included in this study, hence the results cannot necessarily be extrapolated to cases with low-pressure glaucoma. However, the results may help clarify the structure-function relationship in glaucoma.
