This was a small study (10 patients) in Hyderabad, India, that compared the vascularization of porous polyethylene (Medpor) versus porous polyethylene plus synthetic bone graft particulate (Medpor-Plus) implant in the eye socket after a standard enucleation procedure.  The assessment was performed using MRI. The mean area of implant vascularization at 1.5 months, three months and 4.5 months for Medpor implants was 58 percent, 70 percent and 75 percent, respectively, and for Medpor-Plus implants was 69 percent, 76 percent and 85 percent. Although the authors report faster vascularization with Medpor-Plus by about 10 percent, it is not clear if that is clinically significant.
