    Lens Rescue: Double-Flanged Technique

    01:14
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Drs. Tavish Nanda and Chirag Shah use the double-flanged technique to rescue a dislocated scleral-sutured polymethylmethacrylate lens that was previously placed secondary to blunt trauma. The inferior suture remained intact, providing the opportunity to perform a lens rescue rather than a large-incision explantation. The dislocated superior haptic was elevated into the anterior chamber and a small scleral tunnel was made to externalize the haptic. Once stability of the initial flange in the haptic eyelet was ensured, the IOL was then repositioned into the eye and a second flange was created. At 1 month post-op, the patient's vision had returned to baseline.
