Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy
Leber hereditary optic neuropathy is a maternally inherited (mitochondrial) disease characterized by acute or subacute bilateral loss of central vision, optic disc edema in the acute phase, acquired red-green dyschromatopsia, and central or cecocentral scotomata in otherwise healthy patients (usually males) in their second to fourth decade of life.
