Chapter 4: Clinical Evaluation and Imaging of the Anterior Segment
Slit-Lamp Biomicroscopy
Vitreous and Fundus
Dilated examination of the posterior segment allows the clinician to evaluate the vitreous for signs of inflammation, hemorrhage, or ghost cells. Careful stereoscopic evaluation of the optic nerve head should be performed, followed by examination of the fundus to detect pathology such as hemorrhages, effusions, masses, inflammatory lesions, retinal vascular occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, or retinal detachments that can be associated with glaucoma.
