Chapter 7: Scleritis
Highlights

Scleritis is characterized by primary inflammation of the sclera, typically leading to marked pain and congestion of the deep episcleral plexus.

Underlying systemic inflammatory conditions are frequently associated with scleritis. It is important to properly investigate and treat these conditions.

Treatment of scleritis requires systemic administration of anti-inflammatory and/or immunomodulatory drugs.

Worse prognosis is associated with infectious, posterior, or necrotizing scleral inflammation.
