  • Dr. Karatza practices comprehensive and emergency ophthalmology at the Cincinnati Eye Institute Urgent Care Clinic. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, that earned her an academic performance award from Glaxo Pharmaceutical for postgraduate studies in the United States.

    Upon completion of her research fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and a one year internship program at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Dr. Karatza continued her residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa and Louisiana State University. Following 3 years of specialized fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Oncology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Dr. Karatza obtained her masters degree in Public Administration (MPA/MC) from Harvard University and subsequently joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute in 2005.

    Dr. Karatza has published numerous articles and co-authored textbook chapters, and she continues to present her work at both national and international meetings. Dr. Karatza is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Her professional memberships also include the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Wills Eye Society.
