  • Dr. Mruthyunjaya received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in an accelerated 6-year program. After internal medicine internship training, he began his ophthalmology residency at the Duke University Eye Center in 1997. Upon completion, he was selected as chief resident from 2000-2002. Two years later, Dr. Mruthyunjaya completed a subsequent clinical and research fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Duke in 2004. Expressing an interest in ocular oncology training, he went on to complete a fellowship with Dr. John Hungerford at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London in 2005.

    Dr. Mruthyunjaya’s research interests center around translational therapies for ocular melanoma and the study of novel ocular drug delivery techniques, for which he has received funding from the National Eye Institute (NEI). He has also been honored with fellowship awards by the Heed, AOS-Knapp, and Ronald G. Michels Foundations. Dr. Mruthyunjaya is currently a faculty member of Duke University Eye Center’s ophthalmology and vitreoretinal service, where he cares for adult patients with ocular surface and intraocular malignancies and works closely with the medical oncology community.
