Dr. Hoffman is a clinical associate professor of Ophthalmology at the Casey Eye Institute/Oregon Health Sciences University. He received his medical degree from Tulane University's School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1987 and subsequently completed an internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. After practicing medicine in Colorado for a year, Dr. Hoffman returned to Tulane University for residency training in ophthalmology. Following this, he undertook specialized training in refractive surgery and cornea and external diseases in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Hoffman was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) in 1994, and he has extensive training and experience in corneal transplantation and excimer laser refractive surgery.
Dr. Hoffman has contributed more than 200 publications in numerous ophthalmic journals and textbooks. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Review of Refractive Surgery and the Video Journal of Ophthalmology and edits a column for the Ophthalmology Times. Dr. Hoffman has also functioned as a clinical investigator for multiple clinical trials by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and he has designed new surgical instruments for anterior segment surgery.
