Contact lenses may be used when there is a large refractive error which woudl necessitate thick glasses, or when a large difference exists in the refractive error of one eye in comparison to the other. Advances have been made over the past decade in the use of contact lenses in infants and children. Nevertheless, any child wearing contact lenses must be carefully supervised because of possible complications related to leans wear.
