    The left optic disc is pallid and swollen from giant cell arteritis. Funduscopy shows a normal right optic disc with a cup-to-disc ratio of about 0.3 and massive infarction (with a pallid white or “chalky” white appearance) of the left optic disc, with extension into the surrounding retina.
