ASRS 2013 Annual Meeting
Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Retina/Vitreous
The Food and Drug Administration has reported so far this year 14 multi-state or national voluntary recalls of products made by compounding pharmacies. This spate of recalls, plus a 2011 incident of Avastin-related endophthalmitis reported at two VA hospitals, has prompted ophthalmologists to take a second look at the sterility of their compounded drugs. At the ASRS 2013 Annual Meeting, Dr. Judy Kim talked with Dr. John Thompson about the extent of the problem, how to protect patients, and the latest on proposed new regulations aimed at improving quality assurance at compounding pharmacies.
